    Hi Guys

I just bought a macbook , Using OSX version 10.6.1 but I am having trouble connecting to my wireless network. when i select airport on ,it picks up a few networks when i select my network and type in the wep code it comes up saying i am connected but when i open safari its says i am not connected to the internet. I have no trouble connecting pcs to the network.
I think Its a setting in the router that needs to be changed .
I rang the apple helpline and they told me that mac doesnt work on wep that i need to change my network to wpa but I dont believe this as the mac was able to connect fine and work on my mates wireless.

    Anyone have any ideas
    Thanks

I have run network diagnostics and it just says to restart your router and click continue , when i do that it just says to contact your network administrator .
when I click on airport it says alert no internet connection but underneath it has a tick beside my network showing i am connected .

    Hi Guy

Go into your system preferences (under the apple menu on the top left), click on the network pane, you'll see airport with a green dot beside it, click on that and the advanced button, it'll be configured with DHCP, see if it is picking up any DNS servers, this could be your problem, if it is then try manually addressing the mac.

    Thanks Nialler

When I go into DNS it is showing two servers .
How do I manually address the mac, when I go into the router I can see the Ip and Mac address of my macbook.

Where it says DHCP, you can set it to manually, write down the numbers but try changing the DNS to whatever your router is, ie 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254 or it may in fact be something other but keep note as that'll be what your DNS may be, give it a try.

Thanks for all your help guys . I changed my router and modem to a Belkin one and that has done the trick.
