Hi all , I'm trying tto bring some extra light into my hallway , I was thinking of putting some Glass Blocks into the (timberframed) wall between the Hall and Sitting room , and maybe 2 Solar tube Skylights... anyone any knowledge of these? http://www.inhabitat.com/2006/12/28/solar-tube/

    Hi Aidan,
I've seen lots of those light tubes on various jobs over the years and even considered them for my own house but they simply aren't as good as they claim. You should consider putting in a roof window. Thats what I did in the end. More work involved yes but much better result.

Yeah , the Velux was the first choice but I just don't have room for one , sadly...

I've seen them used in some en-suites before where it was not possible to fit a window and they worked a treat

    Aidan,

I have put a few of these into jobs ive worked on.

Velux do a range with all the fixings etc they are called sun tunnels in the trade and velux call theirs that too.

    Have a look here: http://www.velux.ie/Products/Sun_tunnels/

On a sunny day you can feel the heat off them so they do work and they do make the difference in a room. Ive seen them mounted into walls aswell and its a nice feature.

Im not sure if there is a limit to the length, the longest one we put in was about 2100mm long.

With regard to the glass blocks, they are a nice feature, they weigh quite a bit though so you might have to put some support in if puttin them upstairs.

On the ceiling about 18inches if i remember correctly. Look very tidy and not intrusive at all. Would look similar to a ceiling speaker as they are also flush only a larger diameter
