    Hi all,

Have any of you guys or gals had a knee arthroscopy?
If so, would you mind letting me know how your recovery period went? How long before you were back swimming, cycling and/or running?

Was it long before you could go high intensity?

Unfortunately, I have to go for one soon and I am wondering how long should I expect to be off my feet?

    Thanks

Hey, had one about 6 years ago so the exact details are a bit foggy but from what I can remember - getting into the swimming pool was mainly constrained by not being able to get my knee wet until the stitches came out.

I was given physio exercises going home that evening, which were to increase mobility, guess they worked. Think I was on crutches for a few days but that may have been as much because I was going to an all day gig/mini festival two days later so was going to be standing all day.

In relation to running and cycling I wasn't running at the time so can't comment there and only used to cycle as a means of transport from A to B which I think I was okay again to do maybe 10days after it or so, but I probably stuck to short journeys initially. Hope this is a little help.

I had it done in May, fully expecting a 6 week return to gaelic football, triathlons etc.
When you come out of the hospital you feel like you could immediately do anything.

However I would advise getting a physio and let them decide how you are progressing, what you can do etc.

I did not have a physio and came back a bit too early.
I played a match a few weeks after and my knee was irritated for weeks after.

take you time, don't forget that when you wreck your cartilage it doesn't grow back unlike muscles, ligaments etc.
