Just wondering has anyone ever used a "combustion leak detector kit"?
A pipe goes on the rad cap and the air from the rad bubbles through a blue fluid that goes yellow if CO2 present.
Is it effective on a diesel engine ?

Them tests can be hit and miss really. I wouldn't depend 100% on them. Even if the wind is blowing the wrong direction it can cause a fake positive.

I was loosing coolant, couldn't find the leak, got a positive on one of them tests. A few weeks later I actually found the leak, there was a small o-ring gone at the back of the engine, coolant was dripping on to the bell housing and running along the gear box. I replaced the o-ring (€0.50) and it hasn't used a drop of coolant since, that was 18 months ago.
