    Hello,

I am after playing a ton of synths and I feel that in January I need to buy some new toys, can anyone here please give me some advice:

I am looking at the moog fatty 2 and the korg r3, can anyone open up this discussion with some much needed advice and input.
Who does the best prices? I see DV are low compared to Dublin shops.
    Regards

    D

i have a little phatty stage 2, relatively cheap to get the moog sound, personally just bought it for the huge bass, 2 osc and of course a great filter, which moogs are renowned for, fairly limited though its either bass or lead, nothing else(in my opinion). I also have a Korg radias rack which the r3 has the same sound engine i believe, excellent synth, which i am selling,(personal reasons) so maybe we can do a deal!!!:) anyway way more options than the moog - 2 many to mention, sounds really great, only thing missing is the moog bass. Personally wouldnt go near the r3 myself, as i view this like the microkorg etc - very limited toys

Although if you have 2k - the Alesis Andromeda is the one for you, you will never need another synth!

not mad about the dave smith sound, i find it stands out too much, brilliant for fx though, the tetra would be a good option if your thinking along these lines

Hey Dave! I Agree Empirix... apart from the NEVER bit :)
What is your budget? is your mind set on the Moog and the Korg?
If your pocket can stretch go to to the Dark side It may not have such an Historical accredited synth tag. but! for a synth in its time, It is a modern classic... go check one out

Wasn't the Andromeda a disaster reliability wise ?

I remember selling a few in my Music Maker days only to have them all back shortly after ...

Hey Paul, Disaster, maybe with Alesis more so rather than the synth, check ppls reviews on Harmony Central pretty mixed ... from best to the worst.

of the Synths mentioned above the one I've personally had the most problems with is the Prophet 08

Your post made me think a bit about the Subject of reliability and it might seem odd but for me regarding synths It's like "Cool and It's reliable too" I kinda got used to things being temperamental.

99% of the synths I've owed have had issues in one way or another, I'm not talking internal batteries probs. I have a modest amount of vintage gear so its kinda expected but even with my newer bits of kit e.g.: Nord Modular, NI Kore controller DS pro 08 and moving on..Macs! I spent months
bickering with apple over a faulty Intel macbook pro (another story)
I think its Shyte the money we spend etc for very bad quality control and a seeming lack of after sales services from manufactures, I know its not always the case but too often it is, ah anyway thats another topic.
