    Hi, First time poster here.

Am having a small extention done to kitchen ( 24 ft X 5 ft) to side of house. Looking to get a Engineer to check work being done.

Prices being quoted vary with 100 to 200 per visit being and 250 for snag list at the end.

Does this seem about right as am not sure

I am in the cork city area.

    Thanks

We're building a 2100sq ft house. 6 visits is costing 1800e! I'm sure there's more work in a house so that price probabaly isn't too bad. We're in the north fast.

That sounds ok, but you haven't mentioned a price for the final certification for compliance with Planning Permission and/or Building Regulations.

i got a price as follows to inspect the ground on the site, issue a drawing detail and spec for the foundations required, inspection and certify foundations.

site vist for ground inspection - €200.00
    Issue drawing and spec - € 350.00
    Inspection and Certify foundations - € 250.00

    is this normal?
do i need to get a detail from them or just a calculation of what
we should use?any info much appreciated

depending on the ground conditions it could be viewed as expensive or cheap. foundations are expensive to fix if problems arise afterwards. depending on the ground conditions the cost of the drawing and spec could be considered high, if the ground is good and standard foundations are suitable for the project, however if the ground is poor, at the price quoted the drawing and spec would be cheap. (there is a bit of a gamble in it for the quoting engineer) I would consider the cost of the inspections and certification reasonable considering the engineer will be signing off on the design and taking responsibility for same. be sure and check that the engineer has PI cover, if not don't even consider engaging his/her services.
