    Rees named on Prizefighter bill
Former WBA light-welterweight world champion Gavin Rees is to appear in the latest Prizefighter boxing series.

Rees is joined by Ted Bami, David Barnes, Jason Cook, Colin Lynes, Barry Morrison, Young Mutley and Lee Purdy.

The six fighters will battle it out for the £32,000 winner's prize at Olympia's National Hall in London on 4 December.

"Our first ever light-welterweights Prizefighter brings together a field of competitors that would grace any top-line bill," said promoter Barry Hearn.

"It's amazing to get all this talent in one room for one night's boxing and even more amazing when they're going to battle down to one champion on one night."

Bami, Cook and Lynes have all held European belts in their career while Barnes, Morrison and Mutley are former British title holders.

The last series of Prizefighter saw Audley Harrison crowned heavyweight champion in October.

Welshman Rees, 29, is part of the famed Enzo Calzaghe stable and won his world title in 2007 when defeating Souleymane M'Baye on points.

Rees held his belt for less then year after losing to Andriy Kotelnik in his first defence in March 2008.

Since then he has fought only once, a four round victory over Johnny Greaves in August 2009.

Prizefighter sees eight boxers compete in four quarter-finals, a subsequent semi and a final over a single evening.

    Prizefighter, the light-welterweights:
Ted Bami (Brixton, London), David Barnes (Manchester), Jason Cook (Maesteg, Wales), Colin Lynes (Hornchurch, Essex), Barry Morrison (Motherwell, Scotland), Young Mutley (West Bromwich, West Midlands), Lee Purdy (Colchester, Essex), Gavin Rees (Newbridge, Wales).

    Looking forward to Rees.

Yes, great programmes and similar to another great programme called The Contender I wonder why this hasn't been shown recently?

The 4th season has finished, but it wasn't on tv at all, at least not the stations.

Gonna be a real hard one to call. Love prize fighter!!!!

I was wondering what Rees was doing in it. I thought he could go for a big payday vs Kahn given that he is a recent world champ and if that went pear shaped then he could look to something like prize fighter.

But he isnt ranked in the wba 15 and prizefighter mightnt come around again.

I know this a prizefighter form but does anyone think Bredis Prescott is priced up wrong tomorrow night against Kevin Mitchell, our friend paddy has him 10/11, has serious height advantage and has been in with the better boxers but i dont know a whole lot about Kevin Mitchell.

Prescott has been terrible in his last two fights. the odds seem about right.

I don't think they have, imo its a coinflip. Two very dangerous fighters both can take you out quick, I wouldnt' expect it to go beyond three rounds either way. I like Prescott but I deffo wouldn't bet on this fight.

Good stuff Rees into the final, knockdown was crucial there in the second.

Sure was, I was worried after the first round. He will be a hot favourite for the final so I think I'll back the winner of this one now and have myself covered for the final. :)

Might be doing the same! What odds did you get Rees at? 5/2 here.

Rees Vs Lynes in the final.

    Come on Gavin!

    Yeah same as that.

Situation is as follows. Lynes is 2/1 now so lets say you currently have 100 on Rees, if he wins you get 350.

So if you put 75 on Lynes you get back 225 if he wins for a profit of 50.
If Rees wins you get back 350 for a profit of 175.

Its always advisable to stay heavier on the favourite.

Yeah Rees and Lynes have been the best two by far all night.

Get in there Rees. :) Nice bit of cash from that. :)

Well deserved, I fancied him before it began because of his speed although he had to drop Cook to make sure of it in the semi.

I only managed to see from the 3rd round of rees semi but do you think that the entertainment value of the fights go down with the higher quality fighters?
Like when you have guys in their and it really is last chance saloon, or they are coming back off a layoff, they are an up and comer that is been overlooked or whatever then they are willing to put it all on the line and take risks, whereas the lads that operate on a higher level are maybe more methodical / safe in their approach.
