Looking for value for money on a service and a few bits on my 2000 BMW 320d estate.
Have been burned on price and parts before and want to find a decent, honest garage to do the work.

I needed to have break pipes changed on the rear wheels and was quoted €500 by these guys because labour would take 5 hours to remove fuel tank.
A mechanic friend from Kerry, who orginally told me about the rusting pipes, said they only cost around €40 each and he said he'll do it for €200 next time I go down there which will be in a month.
My initial fears have been realised, we are being ripped off in Dublin.

There is a difference between a friend in Kerry charging you for a job and a professional outfit in Dublin central who have built up a solid reputation.

€300 of a difference is not great value for money.

If it's taking 5 hours of labour, they have every right to charge you for five hours of labour.
They could have been inexperienced dimwits, told you it would have cost less, then discover how big a job it was and hike up the price - but no, because they're experienced and have probably done it 100 times before they've been honest up front.
Although no doubt they're not the cheapest place to get your BMW serviced independently, if you want to get service & the experience on par with main dealer, if not better, be prepared not to skimp out.
Your friend is doing you a favour doing this for E200, but I'd hardly call it being ripped off, them (heaven forbid) charging you for the 5 hours labour!!

If you want somebody a little closer try Chelmsford Motors in Ranelagh, they're also BMW specialists.
