If it is bucketing down on the day should I wear a rain gilet or light jacket over my Tshirt like I do in training or is it best to just wear the usual technical type t-shirt, get soaked, and try not to get too cold afterwards?

The advice seems to be wear a black bin bag and dispose of it once you have warmed up.
Personally I'm bringing an old jacket that I can cast off - clothes that are discarded are collected for the homeless.

26m in a rain jacket could be hell.

Does anyone know for certain if this happens? Last year I was injured and in town to support. Walking back down O'Connell St from Parnell Square there were lots of tops, jackets and hats discarded. The street cleaner was dumping them all into his big wheelie bin.

I had heard the same happens in New York when everyone dumps gear near the start. (Apparently because of the number of people having a pee at the start area the clothes are 'wet' and can't be passed to the homeless!)

Wear a bin bag at the start, then once the gun goes rip it off, start running and any rain won't be a problem.

    Don't wear cotton.

Whatever the weather is I hope it's better than today!

For raingear take a look at the Montane Featherlight Marathon jacket - got a good review in last months 'Runners World'. Just google it cos there's no direct link to the product page.

I ran a marathon wearing a jacket exactly once, in Connemara 3 years ago. I have no intentions of steaming in my my own sweat ever again.

T-shirt for me, unless it's snowing.
