    Hi Guys

W220 S-Class 3.2 petrol (LWB), noise like a stone in a tin can coming around 2 feet up from the rear wheel on the drivers side, figured it was the cat as it's only happening around 1600rpm. Any ideas where I can get this replaced without spending the price of a small car, Isaac Agnew up north are quoting £525 ex vat for the front part of the exhaust and £100 per hour labour for 2.5 hours, that's a lot of bobs, I knew this was going to happen some time but now isn't the most convenient of times as we all know.

    Nialler

Sounds like a heat shield has come loose around the exhaust pipe!

If it is, 50c for a 3" hose clamp will do the job, thats what happened to my Lexus GS300.

Just bring it to one of those quick-fit exhaust places to get an opinion.

That model S-class is notorious for catalytic converter problems, but mullingar might be right in that it might be the heat shield.

A friend has the same S320, and recently had the 2 rear cats removed, as apparently they're not needed for the NCT. It's a common enough procedure to cut the housing open and drop the innards out and weld up the housing again.
