Shallow person that I am...More specifically shallow student with no money and a love of watches (specifically all things Omega) puts the following question forward.

I have spent years trawling ebay looking for something reasonable but am always letting things slip once they go past €400...But I notice that specific parts of watches are always on the go rather cheaply. Therefore the question is if I go away and assemble the parts individually (Seamaster movement, brezel, case and bracelet) will I accelerate the process of getting my Omega. I only ask the question as I am fairly certain that I could not be the first person to think of this and if it is as easy as I make out (more specifically costly) a lot of people on this forum would be assembling watches on a monthly basis almost like building model airplane kits.

You would need the correct tools a steady hand and expertise. I suppose if you got a case from one source and a fully working movement from another it would be doable. Even then you would want to know what youre doing. Things like getting the water resistant seals right etc.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

It would be an expensive and time consuming hobby. You will probably be able to gather the parts (the correct ones!!) for a watch over time. You will need the right tools, lubricants etc but finding a manual to explain how to assemble a certain watch model may be harder to come by. And will involve a lot of trail and error.

A steady hand and patience would be a must. Qualities that I certainly don't have! I just use the credit card.....
