Is there any truth to the suggestion that the Connamarathon Half is 70 euros in 2010?

Any truth that the x factor is for girls?

I had hoped reason might have preveiled this year in trems of entry fees as some races are pricing themselves out of the reach of regular runners.

Supply and Demand. The half will fill months in advance. Its obviously a successful formula with a pricing system that meets the demands of more than enough runners. Incidently, from personal experience, I've found in the past that they have been very accomodating to the needs of "regular runners", and even irregular runners

Dispite the Supply and Demand arguement. I simply feel that entry fees in some races are now becoming restrictive to the ordinary punter.Having a "successful formula" to overprice dosen,t make it the right formula ,

Yes it's €70 for the half or the full. I'm happy to pay that for the full, which I have done, but it is quite a lot for a half marathon. In fact, it's a bit ridiculous. But hey, if the demand is there...

It is also €70 for the Ultra, much better value per miles, so am i doing it purely on financial grounds:)

We've had the discussion ad nauseum on race prices. I think the general concensus is that if you don't like the price don't enter. Clearly there are many runners that are willing to pay the prices asked.

In fairness to Conn they have always charged a premium price for a premium product. They deliver what they promise and no one can feel hard done by. What really upsets people is races that charge premium prices and then come up with a shoddy product. In these days of instant communication word gets out quickly.

There are many excellent, club-led races for a fraction of the premium price and without the high profile, crowds and other frills. Your choice.

To be fair, Connemara is quite an expensive event to host. You have the buses bringing runners to their various start lines and then back to the city centre/clifden after the race, 3 start lines etc etc etc It's a great even though, I paid 70 euro for the Dingle half and don't regret it as that too was a great even, obviously I'd prefer it to be cheaper and once we keep paying these fees they won't go down though.

From a personal perspective I'd like all fees to be a small as possible. From a businesss perspective I'd want to fill up the race and optimise profit.

Its a two-way street and runners can only vote with their feet.

I do however think that an event needs to earn the right to charge a premuim which people indicate Connemara has done.

Me, I'm going for the best value for money option - Ultra.

Why not give people the option to make their own transport arrangements at a reduced entry fee ?
They sell the race numbers out well in advance so surely they could book a sufficient amount of buses to cover the numbers then.

Money making racket this is, seems to be more common in the west of Ireland.
Dingle, Mooathon and Conn for example are well above the average going rate.
At least when clubs organise races and make a profit from it they are honest about it.

The problem would arise then with where do you put all those cars in the middle of the route? How do people get back to their cars after the race? If it wasn't for the buses Connemara wouldn't work and the Dingle half wouldn't have worked either.
