New macbook trackpad and keyboard freeze

    Hi,

The brother just bought a new macbook today, and only this eve has the trackpad AND key board stopped working. NO reaction.

Had installed all the updates bar one, the 'performance update'. So plugged in a mouse and went to install that, but it asked for the password..couldn't type obviously as the keyboard was shot. After a few minutes it unfroze (no spinning beach-balls at any stage mind) and he got to type in the password. Asked to restart, which he did, but froze again.

It's happened a few times, not after being left idle. Going back with it tomorrow I think, any suggestions on why it might be happening and should he get a new macbook or will they try 'fix' this one?

Might be a hardware problem. But you could try some of the following which I posted on another thread recently:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=62565795&postcount=6

These require the keyboard obviously - if you can't do them it definitely suggests a hardware problem.

Also try repairing disk permissions in Disk Utility.

Did this problem only start after he updated the software? Did he install any RAM?

If you do have to bring it back, you should demand a replacement. Where was it bought?
