Just started playing handball and want to improve..anyone have any suggestions for game tactics or methods of improving....just when I was playing was been givin the run around...

Also isn't it ridiculous how few handball alleys they are in dublin...wouldnt it be a good game to occupy troublesome youths.?

Handball is a funny sport, there is surprisingly little around on the internet about how to improve, however check this out for some basic idea's:
    Handball Tactics
Really your best bet is to ask around Croke Park, or whatever club you're in. Players tend to be friendly enough to give you tips!

Tell me about it It's a sad situation, IF the new handball centre happens sometime this century (I was about to say decade :D) it'll improve a lot. I'm not holding my breath though.

Despite the lack of alleys, there is also a lack of players. Demand for the alleys will need to grow to make it truly worthwhile to invest in alleys in the city.

I know, its a sad state of affairs.

Im living south side and I still travel to Maynooth to play there with some friends in college (wow, kinda sounds like I'm 6 again!).

There are supposedly a couple of 60x30 alleys close by too, which i started playing recently and enjoyed, but i havent found em yet.

What really annoys me is that the elverys in Dundrum usually has some good equipment (gloves and balls) in stock! but no where to play!

Im a bit of a newbie to handball too, and got really into it a while back. would love to get a game going a bit more often

Firstly start practicing shots. Theres no point in going into the alley and playing a game if you cant hit the ball. This should be done on your own. Practice all the different shots, passes kills back walls wraps roof shots etc. Once you get this started with your strong hand move onto your weak hand.

Practice throwing the ball with your weak hand first. Its all technique. Once you can do this start practicing the above stated shots. Play a couple of games against people at the same level or marginally better than you. Don't start playing people who are better or you will never improve. Join a club there are plenty around Dublin. Watching the pros is also a great way to improve- http://vimeo.com/user1242355. That has more than enough videos of the best players in the world.

    Most of all enjoy yourself!

My advice would be to watch how the top guys like Brady do it. Also there is no point in you playing somebody who you hammer all the time. You have to test yourself.

Also the Irish handball website has a coaching section with some tips in it.
Might be of some help to you http://www.gaahandball.ie/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=256&Itemid=55
