Is it possible to rent a car with someone elses credit card? I'm going to england in a week and want to rent a car but i got rid of my credit card a few months ago so i want to use a relatives card to rent my car..

Is that allowed? I see in the terms and conditions of alot of renters stating the card must be in the name of whom ever will be driving the car.. Can I not pay cash for a rental in the event?

    Thanks

Check with the rental company if you can leave a cash deposit. If you take additional excess waiver insurance they may allow this.

TBH, it's unlikely though. They take the drivers credit card details so they can trace an address in the event that the car isn't returned. It is somebody's £10,000 + asset after all.

I had a rental car booked in France recently and when I arrived I found that I had forgotten mycredit card - cue major grief. They needed the licence, passport and credit card of the person that it was booked under. I was lucky on that I had a second credit card under my name which they eventually accepted even tho it wasn't the one used for the booking.

    Hi Mondeo
You need to have a credit card in your name(drivers name). However if you have someone with you who has one they could use that persons card and the car rental would be in their name and put you on as a extra driver but this is extra. I worked in car rental for a few years and this often happened. As for paying cash they dont do that often and generally they will look for a deposit of the exccess amount on the car insurance from you which is 1000+ euros in general so most would not have access to that!!! Even if they take full insurance they will look for a good few hundred as deposit in cash. Also the person whose credit card you are using must be present to sign the rental agreement and there is no way around that.
    Hope this helps.

Nope as above, Credit card has to be in your name...

only way around that is to have the person with the credit card rent the car, and have you put on as an additional driver.... As long as credit card owner is willing to take that risk.

Cash is not desired option at all, and if you are lucky to find one to take it, it will be a large deposit and on return of the car, you will ahve to wait around 3 weeks to have a cheque posted out to you... You will not get it back in cash.

And it has to be a credit card. Most rental companies won't accept debit cards at all. If they accept cash deposit, which is rare, it's usually an exorbitant amount of cash. I think it used to be 600 EUR with Hertz in Dub Airport, now they don't do it anymore.
