Are All CMOS Batteries The Same?

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me if all motherboard batteries are the same in size, shape, voltage, etc?

I have two PC's and both the batteries have failed at roughly the same time.
Everything else is fine with both machines, but things like the BIOS and BOOT passwords have been reset to their defaults (Off).

I don't want to have to open the cases until I'm ready to replace the batteries if I can help it as due to their location this would mean disconnecting all the cables to pull the cases out of where they are.

Can I buy two CMOS batteries safe in the knowledge that they will work without having to check the details of the two that have failed?

    Thanks for reading.

yeah they're bog standard, just ask for a standard cmos battery

when I was a kid a guy came to repair a 386, he couldn't find a CMOS battery in the wilds of offaly back in the early 90's so he taped a few AA batteries together and wired them in there.
    It worked!!
