hi all, just wondering if anyone has painted tiles before - wondering if the result is good as we are currently pondering painting v ripping out old ones and replacing - we are also looking to sell in the next year so new tiles could be wasted money...but don't want to paint if the result is generally nasty.

In the business years. I would not rec painting tiles. It does not work and it can be noticed straight away. If you want a cheap solution that would look a lot better consider tiling over tile. Although this has problems as well. Sometimes the new tiles kick out a bit far from the walls and you will need to buy longer screws for the sockets. To tile over tile you need to ensure the previous surface is sound.

As for moving next year. Sincere best of luck. The market is very bad at the moment.

Almost anything can be painted once the correct primer and preparation is used. However i would not do it in my own house. As suggested , the cheap and cheerful way would be to purchase a basic tile and apply them over your existing tiles. Would look 100x better that painting them

I think tiling over them would stick out too much, but yeah it looks like the painting will not turn out nice (not for us long term just trying to give a fresh look to ensuite before selling). Might have to get a tiler, am considering doing it myself as it costs the same for tiles as it does for someone to do it and it is really only the shower enclosure. What do you think - should I attempt it? I have done the kitchen floor before, took me longer than I expected but the result wasn't too bad although it was 6 years ago and i have forgotten anything i might have learned :D

I'm a tradesman myself but i wouldnt bother to tile as i like things done right. If you tile the shower enclosure wrong you could have 2 negatives:@ It could look crap and hamper a potential sale and you could end up with a leaking shower tray meaning a ceiling repair below that. Most leaks from showers come from the tiling around the tray and not the fitting on the bottom itself. I use a very good tiler in Meath and i know it would not cost much to tile a shower area.
On the other hand if you feel you can get it looking right with no leaks then you'll have saved a few quid!

Thanks, that's what i thought to be honest, and having fixed the seal already in the shower and made bit of a dogs arse of it (it's sealed no doubt but it don't look great!) I was a bit worried about that. Tiler it is so.
