I quite like the Dodge Chargers with low-profile light bars that a lot of American police forces are using at the moment. Bad ass looking cop cars :)

Yeah the Dodge Chargers are nice. And they're in GTA IV as the FBI cars. They're not that different from that new one.

Looks like a cross of a Dodge Magnum, new shape Honda Accord, Chrysler 300C and a Lamborghini Reventon :L

    The rims... Eww.

    Otherwise, nice car.

Cool looking car but I can see the big three (if they're still around!) sticking their oar in. Think Crown Vic, Dodge Charger, Chevy Impala - they make too much money out of Government vehicles to let this slide!

Doesn't look as well as this though imo:

Have those US cop cars have any extra reinforcement in them (excluding bull bars) and are the engines standard (US standard is big anyway but are they the regular engine). Reason I ask is how many times have you heard the gardai complain that they are racing around in standard saloons and have no protection in them.

It's got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, it was a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

Whaddya say? Is it the new Bluesmobile or what?

    I'd have said Batmobile

I'dve said a Dodge Monaco with a motor on the verge of throwing a rod

The Ford Crown Vic police cars you see here are generally the special police interceptor model, which has a big V8 and better brakes, better transmission, etc. They also have optional kevlar lined front doors :D

The Crown Vic has been around since 1991 and its being dropped in 2011. Nearly everyone in the States swears by them that they are the best cop car ever, even beating the bath-tub shape Caprice which hasnt been built since 1996. If Im right, I think that 440 cu = 7.5 litre engine!:)

7.2 - but its not worth arguing at this level! :D

Can it even go around a corner properly though?

I'm no car fanatic or anything, but the thread caught my attention from the home page of boards.

Judging from the posts, is it just me who thinks it looks crap? They've really overdone it with the lights, in my opinion. It looks like something you'd see in a film from the future, except in a real life situation, if the car got crashed into, shot at, stood on, or generally beat up, due to the amount of lights, etc. it'd cost ridiculous amounts of money to replace.

    [/uninformed opinion]

That, apparently, is another reason why the crown vic is so popular. Its a body-on-frame design rather than a unibody like most modern cars, which makes it cheaper to repair.

Also, I think the engines in them are usually around the 4 and a half litre mark, not 7! We have the Mercury equivalent as a company car here in work, and its a 4-point-something litre v8.

Crown Vic is a 4.6L V8, I don't think that Ford does any big block cars anymore.

As regards police specs, there are two specs of the Crown Vic.

    1. Crown Victoria, usually for fleet & taxi's.

    2. Police Interceptor, designed for police use.

The interceptor has heavy duty suspension, bigger radiator, different axle etc etc.

For once Wikipedia has a reasonable article here for those interested in the differences....
