    Hi all,

well it's not even a year old and my white macbook is a dead duck it would appear.

wouldn't power up, flashing light on megasafe adaptor, so thought that it was the problem as these adaptors are not durable to say the least.

took it to mactivate in blanchardstown, they tried a new battery and new charger but no dice so something more serious, had to leave it with them for a few days to diagnose the problem.

hope it gets sorted, thank god i have applecare!!!

If it's not even a year old it would still be under the original warranty anyway and should be covered, regardless if you had Applecare or not. Hope you get a prompt replacement anyway.

    just an update on this:

the logicboard needed replacing and it was done within a week which isn't bad really.

although it was still under the original warranty i was told by the guy that the applecare had just paid for itself, how so i asked? because it would cost approx 500 euro to replace a logicboard otherwise.

could this possibly be true - 500 to replace a logicboard?

i mean i could get the timing belt done on my car for that!

500 would be a bargain. Including labour, I would have thought more like €700+. For the unlucky person with no warranty or applecare, it usually means just buying a new machine.

god that is so expensive - hard to believe.

is it approx the same price for PCs?

i can remember when i bought it (in new york) the sales assistant told me about applecare and said it would be worth having in case things needed to be replaced in it.

    'like what?' i said

'oh you know sometimes the keypad stops working etc - it's good for that'

i never would have suspected that it would be used so early and save me so much. and it doesn't run out until Nov 2011 as i bought 3 years cover.

just so you know, even if you didn't have appleCare your consumer rights would have protected you and you could have had it replaced without charge.

€610 to replace a logic board on a 20" Alu iMac was mentioned to me last week - thankfully, it wasn't required in the end...
