web casting gigs

Ive no idea if this falls under production, but its the best place for it that I can see.

anyway - If a band were to gig online, via a little flash player, how do yous reckon that would go down? Personally, I think it'd be a dandy idea. You could go to the offie, get some beers, have some smokes, sit in yer own armchair and listen to a live gig online. Or even live gig/radio show where you could have a bit of banter with the (very small) live audience, an interview with the band and maybe a chat with someone on skype.

I think bands should start looking at web casting as a way of getting themselves out to a large audience cheaply. What say you?

(if this really shouldnt be in production then mods please feel free to do your mod thing)

thats an interesting viewpoint and one I never considered before.

In saying that though, this probably wouldnt suit people in cities who are going out anyway - probably more for those who would like to catch a bit of live music, but cant get out.

it's sort of linked to what you're suggesting but take a look around the interweb for stuff about 'Le Placard' festival events.

Very cool concept and it works, albeit to a geeky kind of crowd.

I travelled to Krakow last year to play one of their events that was broadcast all over the world and then last December played via the web to an actual audience in San Francisco as well as folks tuned in via the web.

There was irc available for folks tuned in and in Krakow they had a big screen with the chat session up there for folks present to check out while they were listening to the music via headphones and sinking a few.

I tried to get a Placard event off the ground in Dublin this year for a um festival but sadly I could not find anyone willing to do anything more than talk about what they were going to do to help make it happen (all I needed was a room with a 'net connection) I pulled the plug.

Worth checking out anyway if even to experiment in a virtually free and low risk environment before going the whole hog as it were.

Hi, we're doing it already www.j90.ie

I might do 1 - 2 shows a month as it can be quite a mission when your gigging 6 nights a week, the webcam etc.. gets to be hassle...

you just have to know to have a good line for the up stream wherever you go, most venues have wifi so its not a problem has to be 3mb absolute minimum and thats with audio at 22k and 24 fps and no other bugger on the network.

its can be and is being done so good luck...

remember ambient mics too for crowd reactions so people can truly get a vibe of the gig....

Its the "live" part of this that gets tricky just because of server and bandwith issues. Doing something like this where people can watch the show on demand would be a lot easier. You could add a new gig every couple weeks or something.
