I need a new set of standard tyres for a 00 Golf. I dont really know the price of a decent tyre so i cant gauge what deals are good in the various fastfit, atlas tyres, random garages. Whats the going rate for a set these days and does anyone know any good deals off the top of their head? Thanks.

You need to look at your current tyres and get your tyre size eg 225 /55 /R16 and then log into a site like eiretyres ! Eiretyre prices are supply only so you need to add about 15 euro for fitting and old tyre disposal when comparing to fastfit etc!

Once you know the size you can compare prices on these sites:

    www.camskill.co.uk
    www.eiretyres.com

As posted these are supplied prices only, you will need to add on that the price of fitting, balancing and disposing of the old tyres, probably around €60.

Then ring around your local tyre centres and see what prices they can do them for. As business is tight these days you may find that your local tyre centre will be close to or match the online prices.

Another thread about this recently - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=2055707720

I felt I got a good deal from TAB.

Whatever you do don't go near Advancepitstop! they wanted €155 off me for an economy tyre! Fastfit gave me the same tyre for €90! I think Fastfit seem to be one of the best around. There is a place in Sandyford Industrial Estate too called Ace tyres which I used for my alst car and they were very reasonable.

    +1 for camskill.
I bought 5 285/75/R16 BFG AT's today at a very good price. For example, I just compared Vredestein Wintrac 4 xtreme 235/65/R17 on camskill and eiretyres. Camskill is 112 GBP and eirityres are asking Eur 181. Delivery was 28 GBP for the lot from UK to Kildare. Next day delivery. Can't go wrong.

camskill.co.uk with out a shadow of a doubt!! amazing service and you will find it very hard to beat their prices specially on TOYO tyres. With the prices charged locally (with the exception of one or two) i doubt ill be buying tyres anywhere else for the forseeable future ;)
