I have been having problems sleeping lately and I have felt really tired and the other night I only got 2 hours sleep :( I bought some Nytol on Saturday and took it last night and it worked really well, Can you take this long term?

I doubt that you can take any medication, even over the counter ones, long term. If you are having serious problems sleeping, then you should visit your GP.

Are you particularly stressed at the moment, I get like this when I am nervous or stressed, can go all night without sleep and crash during the day. I find going for a walk in the evening time, then winding down - no television. take a bath or shower and fall asleep to a relaxation c.d. its not for everyone but for me it really works. and if you wake up during the night go downstairs, potter about and try again.

To be honest, I can't recall a time where I slept the whole night through, I keep waking up and lately, I just haven't been able to sleep at all. I lay there just staring in the darkness. I guess I worry a bit about work issues and I know it isn't worth it.

Nytol did work well for me (so far) and at least that way I know I can sleep.

Tablets are a short term solution for the symptoms, not a cure for the condition. I know its an obvious answer but exercise is fab for insomnia. It is absolutely wonderul for anxiety, stress, insomnia, feelin blue...

It's doesn't just 'make you tired so that you want to lie down and sleep', it is physically really good for you as well as mentally, you feel great and it and helps you have really good quality sleep that refreshes you.

It also puts you in a better frame of mind when you are awake, if you are unfit, work up to it slowly. Don't go out and run a marathon! You need regular exercise for this to work, one quick run will not do, you need a few times a week for a few weeks to really see the benefits..

Perhaps you have a more serious medical reason for your insomnia but if you just get bouts of it now and again and are otherwise OK, exercise will cure what ails ya.
