    TheTVDB.com summary:
Dexter gets some much-needed R&R time with Rita and the kids out of town, leading to his stalking of a new victim until he unexpectedly begins to empathize with his target, a cop that murdered her family.

    http://thetvdb.com/?tab=episode&seriesid=79349&seasonid=41602&id=644521&lid=7

Seems the focus on Dexter the family man continues with this episode - hopefully it'll turn out good and lead somewhere but they do seem to be slowing down the Trinity storyline as much as possible (they do kinda have to though and we might get more than I expect in tonight's episode).

Looking forward to watching it later...

    Cop was pretty hot too.

Top marks. The ending was great, and has set it up for a great season.

bored teh tits off me tbh but yes, ending was top notch; I was expecting the usual bf to appear.

op was trés hot in that booby top at the open house.

Assuming it was Trinity at the end, I wonder how it will affect him considering it broke his 30 year long cycle. I'm also gonna assume he didn't mean to shoot Debra and that she was just in the way. Lundy was such an awesome character :(

I really don't think so. I'm thinking it was the "vacation killer" they have been after - how it all ties in to Trinity and the overall arc though, I have no idea.

Enjoyed Dex's story and the cop as well. Strong performance from Lithgow again too, he really is portraying how mentally unstable Trinity is very well.

No need for spoiler tags here when discussing the episode. The thread title is enough warning.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a jealous boyfriend at the end and not Trinity. It was shown earlier in the episode that he wasn't happy...

Safe to say Lundy is gone, and Dex will get his next lead from the voicemail that Lundy left him (but didn't listen to fully).

Best episode of the season by far.

The killer was probably the vacation murderer as that needed to tie in with the main plot (like the skinner did hooking up with Jimmy Smit last season).

    That cop was smokin'

Had that cop been in anything else? Third watch maybe, or whatever that spin off from ER was.

Superb ending. Leaves it open to be 3 possible people- Trinity (unlikely, seeing as he seems to be a ritual killer and this is outside of that), Vacation Killer (maybe, as all the victims were shot from behind), or Anton (which I'm not too sure about because would he shoot Deb too?)

Looks like we won't be seeing Lundys naked ass again.

Christina Cox - I recognize her from Blood Ties where she was the lead, Defying Gravity where she also was one of the main characters and Stargate Atlantis, where she only had a small role:

Wow! I knew Lundy was living on borrowed time...

Great episode, harkening back to the halcyon days of season one and two. And, one of Dexter's most memorable kills. I suppose that now, during her convalescence, Deb will investigate Harry's CI affair to occupy her time.

    Great episode, fantastic ending.

    It's really surpassing Season 3.

Disappointed that it seems Lundy is gone, but a love triangle would have annoyed me, so maybe it's for the best :)

    Great episode.

I really don't think it was trinity- far too sloppy to have been him. I think it was the vacation killer, but deb will survive and blame Anton probably, while Lundy dies. Doesn't look like she got a good glimpse of the killer.

Funny how they made lundy look like John Lithgow at the end with the hair back to.

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,676 ✭✭✭jayteecork

For all we know the vacation killer is Trinity's pawn just like the Skinner was Miguel's last season.

    Lazy writing but who knows?

Or more likely it was Trinity was impersonating the vacation killer(hence him stealing the wallet and watch, and we did see Trinity doing research at the library) so the Miami PD will divert all funds into getting vacation while Trinity is free to go about doing as he pleases, as well as having his nemesis Lundy out of the picture.
Considering LaGuerta and Angel made the vacation killer at the motel would he really stick around Miami?

I really hope Deb dies and Lundy lives. That said i wanted her to die in every season so... I think she'll live though as she needs to find out about Dex and their Harry at the end of the season.

Who likes the journalist for the shooter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,618 ✭✭✭Mr Freeze

Great Ep, I had my suspicions that Lundy was gonna become the 3rd victim for trinity since the last episode, but I wasn't expecting the shooting, I thought he was going to be the bludgeoning victim.

    Sad to see him go.

I doubt the shooter was Anton or the reporter, I'd say it was Trinity, who will probably go even crazier now that his 30yr cycle is broken.

Hmm, possible I suppose but at the same time I would imagine her getting more fanatical about revising the case file for Lundys murder and finishing his work on the Trinity case rather than reading about her long dead fathers possible affair; however saying that they do need some way to work it back into the story so I certainly wouldnt rule it out.

I'd be very surprised by that, what would her motive be?

Why would the vacation murderer kill Deb and Lundy? Unless it was some massive coincidence,it wasn't him. He is on the run with his bird and didn't know Deb was on the investigation. He would go after Angel and Maria if anyone because they were the ones who saw him.

It had to be Trinity, and he just tried to make it look like a typical robbery/murder. Then that will have implications for him because he was forced to break his cycle as he thought Lundy was very close to catching him.

But if Lundy is dead, and the assumption that the Trinity killer was going to have him as his third victim holds, does that now open up the possibility that the Trinity killers' pattern has been disturbed with the possibilty of him now going off the rails completely and killing indiscriminately? I don't think Trinity is the shooter because it's so outside his (known) patterns...

This is why a vacation killer would attack Lundi and co.

Lundi is staying at a hotel. Something rich people do. Lundi just finished nailing a younger woman. Something very rich old people do. Last kill by the Vacation killer was also at a hotel (remember the wall safe) so it's likely he stalks them. And then he put his hand in Lundi's pocket and maybe robbed his watch.

    Cop was so hot

I can see where people are coming from, that Lundy might have been confused for a tourist or some rich bloke living in a hotel but it would be really shoddy writing if it turned out to be a massive coincidence that his next victim happened to be Lundy and Deb. I'll be really p!ssed off if that's what they do.

Thinking more about it, it seems the killer made sure to kill Lundy whereas Deb was left injured but alive.

Surely if it was the vacation killer he/they would have made sure to kill both Lundy & Deb so I think we can rule that out anyway. Unless I missed something, the vacation murders haven’t left other victims alive and by opening fire on the police in a previous episode they’re not averse to killing at all so leaving someone alive doesn’t make sense.

Similarly I’m thinking that with his meticulous crime scenes surely Trinity wouldn’t have allowed a witness to live even if the killing was totally out of his comfort zone. After all, his motive to kill Lundy was to halt the investigation which is a bit pointless if you now leave a witness to your crime. Frankly it was just sloppy and I cant imagine Trinity doing that.

Which makes me lean more towards Anton; killing Lundy makes sense as Lundy is his rival but he wouldn’t want to kill Deb so that’s an explanation for leaving her alive. And its not entirely out of character for him since while he might have appeared to be a good guy for a while lets not forget that he was a criminal and does have a lot of ties to the criminal world since he was able to get a good bit of info for the police last season about the movement of drug dealers and killers. Given the resources and reputations of some of the others looking for those people, how is it Anton beat them to the punch?

Spoiler don't click the youtube clip if you haven't seen the episode. What are you doing on the thread if you haven't seen it anyway! /Spoiler

One of the best scenes of all the seasons. Real dark comedy stuff

I seriously doubt it was Anton that was behind the shooting of Debs and Lundy.

I will put my money on Trinity, making it look like the Vacation Murders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,707 ✭✭✭MikeC101

Did Lundy definitely die? He got shot a couple of times, but I could see a "Lundy in coma" scenario, the possibility of Trinity trying to finish him off in his hospital bed to ratchet up tension levels, and Debs going all out crazy in an attempt to catch Trinity. Meaning Dexter will have to help her out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,093 ✭✭✭Amtmann

    No, he is dead.
Showtime have a 30-second clip of next week's episode on their Dexter website.

Crap. I liked him as a character, and hoped he might begin to suspect Dexter. Plus it probably means more focus on whiny / angsty relationship Debs
    .

I know it's early in the season and all, but it doesn't seem like Dexter is going to have a Doakes type character after him. Which is a shame, I thought the show was at it's best when he was always so close to discovery. Still, Trinity should prove to be a worthy adversary.

I kinda think Quinn is being built up for that position. He definately doesn't like him after stealing cash from the safe

Anyone else think that dexter is getting extremely sloppy? The fact the cops disappeared and he kept asking questions about her could be deemed suspicous.:D

Well he did buy her tickets, pack for her and drive her car to the airport. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,126 ✭✭✭][cEMAN**

I think the point of her disappearing was because he was asking the questions. The idea that she did it coming to light so she had to get out before it was too late.

That's the reason he said he'd gotten her tickets to a place with no extradition treaty.

As for getting sloppy, I think that's a main theme in this series - the family changing him. It's showing in his work. He's losing focus, which is what made him what he is.

We've been shown the code. We've stuck by the code. Then the code has been taught. Now the code is keeping him going through the sloppy times.

I'd love to see a generational twist here with one of the kids, or his own kid turning out like him, but I don't think it will happen. I heard someone mention before it happens in the books in a way, but I think that was what passing the code on was last season.

The only way his craft is going to get back on track is either for him to find a way to balance the family and the passanger, or for him to split up his marriage before the end of the season. I don't think that will happen though, unless she leaves him. Could be hinted at by her beginning to see his darker side.

On the other hand his ongoing change regarding how he feels about his family, could be changing him and giving him a new focus and path in life.

    Now i'm rambling.

Great episode and fantastic ending. Re what people have been saying about Dexter getting sloppy. At the end of the episode when Dexter is in his apartment and his father says "you should fix that drip, you don't want the place falling apart" then he takes off home to fix the place before Rita and the kids get back. Its like the code and his subconsious is saying he's slowly falling apart by choosing his family over himself.

Absolutely fantastic episode! The conflict between Dexter and his victim was just brilliant! And that ending, excellent!!!! :D:D:D
