Hi im doing Arts at the moment and while im still a fair bit off second year due to considerations im making for semester 2 ive started thinking about the structure of my degree overall. Whats the major difference between a single major and a joint major(Besides only taking one course instead of 2 of course). What i mean is im pretty focused on doing one as a career but i enjoy other subjects too will it be to the detriment of my main subject to do another subject also.

Another thing i was gonna ask is whats the general layout of classes in a joint major vs. major with minor situation.

If i take a major with minor am i losing out on classes i could be doing for my major if i took that only?

etc etc etc. you get my point. Any clarification of this system would be greatly appreciated or if you dont want to type it out a link to a webpage with the relevant info would be great as well.

    Cheers everyone.

You get extra classes if you do a single subject major.

They are special extras (like dissertations).

I think they tend to be like MA groups (small numbers and somewhat more intense).

You need good results in first year exams to get a place.

But you lose out on your other subject (apart from an elective here and there).

If your two subjects are interrelated it might be an idea to keep them both. If you want to specialise in the single subject...

Cheers for that Randomname that makes perfect sense. I was wondering how they could add in extra classes for single honours people but but deprive people doing majors in it. Good advice though, the two im thinking of go well together so ill just stick with that.

    Cheers again.

Maybe do a major/minor split. Thats a 30/20 credit split, so 6 modules of one subject, 4 of another(then 2 electives too). Just a suggestion anyway.

Yeh thats exactly what im thinking Mushy. I wasnt sure what i was missing out on not doing the single major but im happy enough with the idea of doing a major/minor.
