I've not done it, but look at http://www.bahn.ie/

I think the airport is "Flughafen Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Terminal, Rheinmün"

Travel time 1.5-2.5 hours, €20-30 one way.

So that leaves straight from the airport?... Brilliant!!!!

Depends on what your definition of "that leaves straight from the airport" is.

If you look at the link and key in your details you will see that the route provided is a bus to Baden Baden, short walk to the train station and then a train to Freiburg.

So, yes, the bus leaves straight from the airport, but I think you'll find that almost all airports around the world will have a bus link to somewhere useful nesarby like a city centre or train station.

If you think you're getting a train from Baden Baden airport I think you'll be waiting a very long time.

No, but DB website includes bus links to train stations as part of the routes. Plenty of busses from right outside the door of the terminal.

Be mindful on the way back, your bag will be weighed and checked for size prior to passing through security. No exceptions allowed, so if your bag is too big/heavy, you'll be made to check it in.

Yeah, sorry I wasn't making a point about the DB details, really, just that the OP may have been thinking the train left straight for the airport. Or maybe I'm reading too much into a short post . . . I do wish people would write long posts and then I wouldn't get confused.

Freiburg is a really lovely town OP, hope you enjoy it. There is a great beer garden on a hill overlooking the city. Lovely at sunset.

Also a trip out to the Blackforsest is a must. You can take a train for about 30mins to the Titisee (Lake Titi.. I kid you not) which is really lovely.

Finally I would recommend taking a short trip out to this suburb to see the future of urban planning.

It really is joy to be in residential area with little or no noise pollution from cars. The kids play on street all day long. It really opened my eyes as to how we have got the concept of suburban living completely wrong over the past number of years.
