Is it possible to move a sewerage tank/system?

    Hi,

I haven't got the first clue about construction so was hoping for a bit of advice please :)

Could someone please tell me is is possible to have a sewerage system moved? and if so is it major hassle/expense and would I need to apply for planning permission?

Our house is on a square site. The house is in the bottom left hand side, the sewerage tank is to the right of the house & the percolation area is over from that again.

The site is an acre, I'm trying to see if it would be possible to get planning for a house on the right hand side of the side, literally split the square in half so to speak with a house either side.
The main obstacle I can see from the outset is the current location of the sewerage system. (we didn't build the house ourselves).

Alternatively, would it be cheaper to build a new sewerage system for the existing house on the current site (with plan to put a replacement system behind the house) & divert the existing sewerage system for a new property on the right hand side of the site?

Please let me know if I'm making no sense here! I've done a rough sketch of the house/current sewerage location (black) and where I'd hope to move it to if feasible (red)

Thanks in advance if anyone can help :)

You'll need two new waste water treatment systems. One for each house.
You'll need planning permission for both.
You should contact a 'Site suitability assesor' from the planning office's list of assesors for advice.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the advice PaddyThai :)

Oh I shouldve mentioned also, the current house and existing sewage system is only 2 years old so relatively new. Its a 'Biocycle' system

Only issue I see you facing is that any planning may require you to have the new house (on right) on the same building line which may put it too close to the existing system.

Since it's a biocyle you could probably dig it up and move it (after relevant permission obtained) unless it is concreted in.

Thanks Davidoco, I don't think it is concreted in so that might be an option alright. I reckon you're right that it would have to me moved in order to keep the buildings in line.

    Thanks for your help
