See this thread. I wear them in the sauna, steam room ,pool, jacuzzi - basically doing all activities in the leisure centre I go to, and I go on a daily basis and have been for years. I only take them out when I go home. The sauna will dry out your eyes and lenses though so they might not be quite as comfortable in your eyes. For that reason I prefer the steam room.

I go in the sauna, steam room, swimming and have showers and I don't take them out afterwards. I leave them in for the rest of the day and have never had any problems. I wear goggles when swimming though.

Sauna, steam room, shower should be fine. I've done all of these and not worried. I keep my eyes closed in the shower though. Do bear in mind the jacuzzi will probably be a bacteria fest and the pool may not be better. I will swim with contacts but will never put my face in the water - yeah, I look like a woman trying to keep her hair dry but so what... A 30 second chat with your local optician will persuade you of why - amoebic cells under the contact = bye bye cornea.

If you want to swim, it's probably best to use correcting goggles. I saw a pair in Vision Opician's in Stillorgan today for 40 quid. Wish I'd seen those when I was swimming a lot...

Shower isn't ok. I asked my optician when I got my monthlies, and he said it's a bad idea, as is swimming.

Optician told me not to wear them in the shower because the water isn't as clean as in taps and you could get a serious infection. Can't imagine sauna and steam rooms are any different

I wear mine in the pool, shower, diving in the sea, surfing (in some less than clean spots in out of the way countries) and have done for over 20 years. A lot of opticians warn you about Acanthamoeba but most of them neglect to mention that your chances of encountering this beastie are extremely rare. It's a personal judgement call - if you do get amoebic keratitis in your cornea you can kiss your vision goodbye - but you're much more likely to have a piano fall on your head while aboard a fishing boat in the middle of the Indian ocean. I like those odds!:D
