RCL fun & fixing

OK, so like many boardsies, I like to fix things myself so I learn new things on the way (or really because it means I get to spend my money on boards..ie coke and hookers).

So my central locking- driver's side door has always sounded a bit "strained" upon opening and closing. Cue today I go out to my car (2001 Nissan Almera hatch) and find:

    1) Remote locking not working (checked both remotes and tried new batteries).

    2) Central locking not working (usually opening the door with the key opens all the doors+boot).

    3) Usually the hazards flash when the keyfob is pressed (they don't) but when I do press it I can hear slight noise from the doors.

    I checked the following:

    -Battery: fine
    -Fuses: fine

I then whipped out my workshop manual and the lock actuators are in parallel and the open/close sensors in series (this was me wondering if the driver's door actuator dying could affect all the others).

Took off the trim of the driver's door to try figure out if the locking system is fully electronic (I think it is) but could not get the actuator out because of big bits in the way (not sure how I'll get it out if it needs replacing).

So my question is, what should I replace? The door actuator or the "time control unit" (I thinkp this is what controls the RCL)?

Random picture of actuator attached in case it is of use to anybody.

You will have to take the complete lock unit out to replace the electrical part.

Yup I gathered as much, not quite sure how it is supposed to come out, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. D'ya think the driver's door actuator is causing the rest of the problems (i.e. none of the locks working)?

Its hard to say whats causing it without seeing it but I changed one a few weeks ago for the same thing.

To remove it you will have to remove the glass and the runner and there is a cover around the lock unit aswell.

Thanks, it will be a few weeks before I find the time to do the lot then!
