In the womens race there was no contest, Mary Cullen was too strong. Ciara finished a fine 3rd just ahead of Maria McCambridge.

The mens race right from the start was a 2 horse race Keneally leading them both around until the last lap when Christie took it, not sure when he made his move as I was waiting at the finish, I thought Thornton in 3rd was also very impressive although he finished a distant 3rd he seemed to bounce around the course and overtook Sean Connolly who ended up in 5th.

I'd have called the lads more neck and neck rather than Kenneally leading them around. He may have had half a yard on Christie but they were side by side for the duration.

My pictures from the race are now online - http://www.racepix365.com/Gerry-Farnan-2009/photos97.aspx

Some great shots again SP although my own pics def suggest that it was keneally doing all the work with Christie tucked in behind him hence why I said Keneally leading them around rather than neck and neck

Yes Kenneally was doing the work but Christie looked ominous the whole time. Fionnuala Britton ran well and was a clear 2nd. Without Mary Cullen she would have looked back in business. Ciara Mageean ran great. Sean Hehir back in form. Kevin Dooney won under 18 from Michael Treacy (both well clear) and Niamh Denny won girls.

National road relays in England show interesting results and huge numbers of teams! Good run by Stephen Scullion on leg 3.

Kenneally led some of the time, they were side by side for the remainder of the first 4 miles. They are training partners and both wanted a good hard race at this time of year so it wasn't a sit and kick exercise.

Kenneally ran 13mins 36 for 5000m during the summer and is a really consistant performer so Christie is in great form. He always had the class. Hopefully after his 7 mins 50 for 3000m this summer he can keep going in the right direction. Hopefully we'll see both in Santry!

There was a big gap to Gary Thornton. Mick Clohissy ran well in 4th. Sean Connolly was 5th and didn't look likely to place any further up. Michael Mulhare also ran well and is making a good transition to senior. Both he and is arch rival from his juvenile days, Craig Murphy, have started the season well from opposite sides of the athlantic!

Liam Trimble led the juniors home with a fine run after Shane Quinn stepped off when ahead of him and looking like he was set for a good finish.

Mary Cullen was sublime in the Ladies and gave us a taste of whats to come in Santry. She took control from the gun and dominated in a very authorative manner. Hopefully she can claim a medal! Finnoula Britton ran well in second. There was another big gap to Ciara Mageen who showed her incredible potential once again by taking third. Orla O'Mahony battled well to take fourth and Maria McCambridge ran a solid race in 5th, having disputed third for much of the race.

    Roll on the Inter Counties!!

Shane Quinn was wobbling with about 250m to go and had to be effectively told to stop (against his protestations) then he more or less collapsed. Hopefully he makes a speedy recovery.

I missed that. He was set for a good finish - about 12th. Hope he's back in action soon. He's a real talant and will still be a junior in 2011!!

    I think Alan O'Brien was 5th, with Connolly 6th I think.

I thought Connolly was burnt a bit by the pace set by Kenneally in the first Lap. He seemed to fade back for the remainder of the race. I thought he might have been able to challenge for third if he had raced for that position. Thornton seemed to run a more even effort and had decided early that third was the highest place he could finish.

I thought Kenneally maybe had Christie slightly stretched in the second lap but once he wasnt able to break away then, Christie looked the more confident.

Connolly has been coming back from injury and i say with another month or so he will be back in fighting form

Has to be one of the strongest fields short of the nationals in a long time. Great racing

Given it is taken into account for the selection of the Euro's and the fact that these are on here this year it was always gonna be a very high profiled race
