So after all the new info that has been released yesterday, will you still buy it come release day?

I for one wont be, at least until they introduce a way for dedicated servers to be made possible and therefore clans, mods, maps etc, and everything were use to and what makes the pc community what it is.

Also as i post this, not sure if IW are trying to hide it, but a nearly 3,000 post long thread on the IW forums is broken or being deleted or something, also the petition is over 16,000 now too.

    http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?dedis4mw

Update: 3,000 post long thread now seemingly messed up stripped back to 4 pages long instead of 300 pages
    http://www.infinityward.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=61932&start=2920

New petition thread because last one got corrupted or deleted by mods, growing quickly again.

Not now, no. I'll get the SP by other means and forget about the MP which is gonna be crap now.

    Sales -1
    Piracy +1

Bet afterwards they'll blame piracy on pc for ruining the game sales, therefore dropping a pc version completely for the next game

I won't be buying it now. I had the last MW for PC & Xbox 360 and found the online experience way better on the PC. The new system holds no appeal to me at all.

No, after what happened yesterday i will not be buying it.

The clan that i am in is going through a dry patch at the moment and we were hopeing that MW2 was going to be the pick up game, but without our own dedicated server it will be very difficult for us to get anything out of the game. I am expecialy pissed at this because i am the head of the COD series in my clan and i just don't know what to do about it now.

Saw this on one of the IW threads :
Shack: By the way, have you changed the way multiplayer games function on the PC at all?

Robert Bowling: PC will be the same as it always was.

    Shack: LAN support as well?

    Robert Bowling: LAN support, yes.

    And then He says this:
Robert Bowling: There might be more after that. We haven't even started working on DLC yet. We're thinking about what we're going to do, but this is still something we're working out. We've promised them at least two DLC, that we'll release first on Xbox and then go wide everywhere else, so it's a very short, timed exclusive. We have plans, we'd like to do more, but we'll worry about that after we ship the game.

Shack: The Call of Duty 4 DLC was free on PC, wasn't it?

    Robert Bowling: Yeah.

Shack: Should people expect the PC Modern Warfare 2 DLC to be free as well?

Robert Bowling: We haven't even made a decision as to what it is, so we haven't made decisions on how to price or sell it.

The only reason theyre doing this is to sell map packs. Bet there'll be 50,000+ cancelled pre-orders by morning, its already getting one star reviews on Amazon and its not even out

I'm not buying MW2 if we can't have our own servers... It will be bye bye MP. I'll find some other way to play the SP then it's back to MW1 or CoD2 (or another game altogether).

I had intended buying it for pc wont be now.
I will however get it for 360, mostly because i promised it to my little lad.

Earlier this morning, the executive producer for the Battlefield franchise tweaked Call of Duty over Infinity Ward ending dedicated server support, "confirming" that, yes, dedicated server support is "a given" in Battlefield titles on the PC.

"Dedicated servers FTW. What ever secures a better online experience is a given for us," Tweeted DICE's K.M. Troedsson.

No, not buying it. It's a useless game with no servers and no lists.

So many PC games I haven't bought for not having that feature, MW2 will join them.

IW is trying to trap the PC gaming and leech people for money, screw em!

I hope will just abandon PC gaming and stick to 360, no need for half assed games.

This guy on Amazon gives pretty good reasons of why not to buy it...
    Reasons to avoid:

    1 -
Up to now, clans (not infinity ward) rented tens of thousands of dedicated servers that were located on professional datacenters with huge bandwidth and low pings. And cheap.

    2 - From MW:2 onwards
Dedicated servers are banned in this game. It means you will play online in some random kid computer while he downloads porn on the background 10 minutes before he goes to bed, by which time you'll get "server disconnected" message. He owns you.

    3-
No more choosing the lowest ping server.

    4-
No more choosing the best server in relation to number of users/ping

    5-
No more customizable server options to better suit different styles of play (are you Solid snake or rambo?)

    6-
    Clans biggest nightmare.

    7-
    No custom maps

    8-
You are also forced to pay for downloadable content every time it comes out if you want to play online. This, because IW system will conveniently point you to a game that HAS downloadable content, but because you CANT choose the servers you are stuck with it.

    9-
The first game sold 14 million copies. For a company, to sell up to 1 or 2 million copies keeps them honest, its like smocking a cigar. Addictive but sane. But at 14 million, you are into heavy drugs. You will steal your son to fund the vicious cycle.

That Amazon guy has it pretty well summed up! AFAIC, IW can go f&%k themselves. They won't see another penny of my money!

    im not getting it

what baffles me is, with the huge success of mw1 on the pc, the communities grew around this game, and was set to sell a huge load on the pc anyway! why cripple it?? :(

but HOW are they going to make more money out of this? 90% of the COD community have already come out and said they're not getting it!

Because they thought we'd let them walk all over us with that new "no dedicated servers" rule! So they'd thought we'd all shut up and buy the game like stupid people... If we had, they would have realeased map packs (and sh!t like that) to get more money from us. But I hope to God not a single PC version is sold! Then hopefully they'll get the message!

also, i've just thought, some hardware companies wont be pleased with their MW2 limited edition hardware they are releasing. wonder what they think of the situation. not to mention server hosts who were banking on MW2 to be a seller

Exactly. Thats the only reason I can see them doing it, money from DLC etc. They tought it wouldnt be a big problem and they'd milk as much money as they can from us, I think now they have copped on that were not just going to lay silent on this one though they still havent got back to the community. We all know if it works in their eyes itll be carried over to other games whether or not its true. At least with the petitions and threads on their forums they wont be able to blame it on piracy, they and other companys/media have their reason right there why it didnt sell as good as they'd hoped. Though the larger amounts of pirated copies because of this wont help.

Yeah, heres hoping server companys and other hardware companys that rely on big sales get in touch with IW/Activision. The big boss men coming into work tomorrow will hopefully see the big mess this decision has made and there is just no way their hope of extra profit from DLC is going to hold true when there is hardly anyone playing the game in the first place

By all means rant about IW and Ativision but DO NOT advocate illegal activities such as piracy. Thanks.

Would like to know if the people who voted yes are actually pc players and not console players and actually took the time to read the question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,814 ✭✭✭Rezident

Yes definitely. Looks like I won't be playing multiplayer though. Single player campaign in the first game was so good though, if it's anything like that I'll be happy.
