Nigerian Tourist Visa

I'm Irish but I live in France, and I will be travelling across West Africa this winter.

As part of the journey we expect to be crossing Nigeria in a car, from the border with Benin in the west, to the border with Cameroon in the South East.

It looks like I will have to either go to the Nigerian embassy in Dublin, or the Nigerian embassy in Paris. (The Nigerian embassy in Paris does not accept intermediaries.)

Has anyone here ever dealt with the Nigerian embassy in Dublin?

African bureaucracy is hard work at the best of times, but I'm finding the people in the Parisian embassy really difficult to deal with.

Ideally, I would like to use a visa service, particularly to avoid the possibility of multiple, expensive and tiresome visits to the embassy. Has anyone any suggestions for a good visa service in Dublin?

I used Visa First a while back to get a Russian visa. Was only about E10- E20 more than doing it myself and it saved me q'ing up outside for a morning so I couldnt really fault them. www.visafirst.com

UK travel company Trailfinders have offices in Dublin.
They may be able to help with Nigeria.

My experiences with dealing with the Nigerian Embassy (4 visits) have been pretty depressing.

One one occasion they claimed I had no blank pages in my passport because a bit of ink had bled through from a stamp on the other side of the page.

Last time I arrived at the embassy to find they had no application forms and you had to download your own off the web. I had to go to a local estate agency and beg them to access the webpage and download the form for me.

Now I see that their website claims they only accept online applications - but when you try to apply a 4004 server error comes up.

I've emailed Visa First and hopefully they can help me out.

    Three tips:

Get Travel Insurance (standard tip for anyone travelling really)

Takeout Life insurance, you are going to dangerous territory, kidnappings and murders are a way of life there.

As for African Burecracy, take US Dollars, expect to hear "What have you got for me" Corruption in rife and bribery pays more than their salaries.

    OK, so in the end:

    - VisaFirst spent nearly a week asking about, before saying they couldn't do it
    - I've made the application to the Nigerian embassy in Paris, the web site seemed to work fine. I included everything imaginable: travel insurance, hotel reservation, carnets du passage, visas for onwards travel, electricity bills, payslips, bank statments, proof of work in France after I return, itinerary... to be delivered by courrier monday morning. Let's see what happens!
