RTE have been rerunning the Reeling in the Years program these past few weeks (started with one every weekday evening then changed to two every Sunday) with the events of a single year reported in each programme since 1962 when RTE started broadcasting.

Anyways on the 11 Oct last, they were scheduled to broadcast the program containing the 1993 & 1994 years' events. At the time the 1993 program was to be transmitted, the continuity announcer said

"Reeling in the Years is on the way in half an hour , but now on RTE One in a change to our advertised programmes, John Waters pays tribut to the town he calls home, in Nationwide"

So they showed that special nationwide programme made in 2005 according to the credits. I couldn't understand why given that (as far as I know) John Waters is not dead and Dublin is still there. But to my annoyance they then transmitted the 1994 episode of Reeling in the Years skipping 1993.

So with no current event prompting the transmission of the Nationwide programme there must have been some issue with the 1993 program.

    Could it have been:

Anyone able to shed any light on this? Many people say RTE has an anti FF grudge. If this kinda thing is happing they seem to be quite sympathetic to FF or some of its members.

Was that the year that Boyzone were on the LLS?
Maybe they weren't sure whether it would be suitable to show StevieG doing his embarassing dance.

I would say it was a mistake.

The embarrassing dance was show on BBC News and other channels during the week.

The Frank Dunlop piece is fairly soft, I don't think that their are any legal issues.

Generally it is FF rather than RTÉ, did they show the year that Centry Radio Closed down ?

Unlike Sky News, which have shown the clip every 5 minutes since his death.

Have you emailed RTE? What did they say?

I assumed it was re Stephen Gateley but then on the one after that they had a clip from Love for a Reason so I figured it wasn't that.

ok, didn't realise he had died the night before. however i do think it should have been made clear why the program was not being broadcast.

i was thinking couldn't someone edit the content to exclude that part of the program, but again it was the weekend and when media is uploaded to the hardware for playout over the air, it may not be possible to do so.

and i suppose that it would be difficult to announce that we're not showing this particular program as it's content makes someone who has just died look silly.

but then again surely the clip highlights how they progressed?

anyway pity though as that particular program has a few golden moments in it.
