Sony Walkman NWZ-A818: video?

    Hello all,

I have a Sony Walkman NWZ-A818 and it's a great music player. However, it won't let me play videos on it. It keeps saying that I need to convert the video files (they are .AVI) to another type in order for them to work.

Could anyone tell me which file type the player will support and how I can convert the .AVI files?

    Thanks in advance.

Download a programme called "handbrake", convert to one of the preloaded ipod profiles, that should work...unless handbrake have changed something since i last used it.

Thanks for that but it doesn't seem to have worked.

I converted the AVI file using Handbrake to MP4, which I think the walkman should support, but the file didn't work when I turned the player on. Same thing when I tried M4V, MKV and OGM formats too.

    Any ideas?

First pick the iPod setting (the old ipod, not the iPod touch/iPhone). Then make sure the following:

Container must be MP4 (maybe m4v, same thing basically)

Resolution must be no more than the physical screen res. (so 320x240 or whatever it is, can't recall). If its a widescreen movie, just pick the width at 320 and handbrake will calculate the height itself.

Video should be H264 baseline profile. Audio should be AAC stereo

Go to the 'advanced' window of handbrake. In the command window, find the 'level' setting and change it to 13. If its not there, type it in like this (with a : if you are typing after another setting)
    :level=13

    Should do it.
