Dying blond hair red - need some help

    Hi All,

    Would like some opinions please!

I have dyed my hair light blond with home kits (Loreal Excellence Creme)for the last 8 years. My hair is down to my waist and in very good condition, this particular brand has always worked really well for me.

I want to dye my hair strawberry blond/light red but don't want to go to the hairdressers as it's too expensive due to the length of my hair. Does anyone have advice as to what method is the best to use? A few friends have suggested dying the hair brown first then red after a few weeks?!?
Is it best to use the same homekit brand or would I have to get something from the specialist hair shops?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

I would advise you to save up a bit and go to a hairdresser the first time you dye your hair red. You can then dye it at home using home kits.

My hair is naturally dark brown but I have it dyed a gorgeous deep vibrant red.
I went to the hairdressers the first time but maintain it on my own using a brand called 'Jeans Colour, deep red'. The hairdresser had to put peroxide into my hair the first time to lift the colour but I'm not sure if it'd be the same for you seeing as your blonde.

Your hair sounds beautiful so I really think you'd be better off going to a pro as you risk wrecking it doing it yourself.

    Good luck

Hi, I dyed my blonde hair red couple of years back but had to go back to blonde cuz my roots grew back blonde and nearly looked green was awful:eek:........... but I went a dark red so not sure about blonde hair been dyed a strawberry blonde colour the roots mightnt be too bad. Could you not just go to a hairdressers for consultation/ advice?

I have naturally blondey red hair but I dyed it very blonde last year and now I'm dyeing the ends red again to get back to before. I find the Nice and Easy colours are great, but, like all reds, they fade very quickly.

    Try Natural Golden Auburn.
