Gear levers for a mountain bike

    Hi guys,

looking for a bit of advice on gear levers. I picked up a cheap bike (a tenner!) and it's in bad shape. It had grip shift levers on it but both are in bits (hanging off cos the plastic is all broken). I was planning on sticking on some non-indexed cheapy old school levers but can't see any on ebay.

there's plenty of STI levers to be had for about a tenner but they all seem to be for 7 speed wheels. Would these work on a six speed wheel, and would it be a big job to set it up? It's been a while since I had to do anything like this, and the last time I did, my bike had the non-indexed type gears so not sure how you do the whole indexing thing to align the levers with the derailleur.

Any advice, tips, suggestions would be great! As the bike only cost a tenner I don't really want to spend a huge amount of money on getting components.

    Thanks

    Rex
