Octavia speaker fault

The speakers on my wife's 06 Octavia have developed a fault, yesterday when she switched on the ignition there was a 'pop' and the sound system went dead. The head unit is still powered up but there is no response from the speakers except for a regular 'clicking' sound every second or so.

What might the problem be? I've checked the fuses and they are OK. My missus will go loopy if it's not fixed shortly!

sounds like the speakers are gone. They're only 30 each.
Well, they were for my passat anyway.
