If a new TV has TNT and Boxer (along with freeview) logos does this mean it definitely gets MPEG4 ?

No, these markings/logos don't gaurentee MPEG4 support. If it has 'TNT HD' logo then it does support MPEG4. Boxer Sweden has some channnels on MPEG2 and some on MPEG4. Your best bet is to search the manufacturers site for user guides/specification manulas with the model number of the TV and whether they specifiy MPEG2 or MPEG4/H.264.

TNT-HD is MPEG-4 and since April 1 2008 Boxer Sweden is only approving MPEG-4 receivers.

and if it has freeview it has MHEG5 , whether the system software will allow the combination of MHEG5 and MPEG4 to work is another matter .

Did you see RTE1 DTT working in the shop and was there any Teletext, that is the ultimate test !

Well MPEG4 is hardware so no software update will cure a lack of hardware. But I know what you are getting at. It wouldnt be unusual to see MHEG5 and MPEG4 working together. The Sony KDL's have both.

However there are some specific UK profile products are on the market such as the Pani Freesat/Freeview LCDs which dont have all the service types defined in the software as some have found out the hard way.

The LG Lf7700 have all three - MPEG4 H264 Freesat and fully functioning DVB-T with all service types defined.

If you do get a TNT HD product the likelyhood of getting the MHEG5 with it might be just pot luck as its not in the French profile.

Reference to Boxer would be irrelevant Mike as there would be old stock still lying around.

I got an LG recently (19LH2000, sourced from here) and can confirm that it works perfectly with Irish DTT. The teletext GUI design is excellent and even includes a minature window with the current TV programme along with the teletext information.......
