hamilton's quaternions

    Can any one explain the link between hamiltons quaternions and computer games to me please.

    Basically, you can express a 3 dimensional vector as a quaternion. With quaternions, there is a pretty simple formula that you can use to rotate the vector. So if something is rotated in a computer game like an arm moving, you can use quaternions for the rotation.

    Quaternions are used for rotating stuff in 3d over traditional methods such as having variable for yaw, pitch and roll because it is a solution to the problem of the gimbal lock.
