First time Olympic triathlon

I'm looking at doing my first Olympic triathlon in northern Spain in September next year. I've done a few sprint triathlons and found them challenging but essentially doable. I was just wondering what training I should be doing over the Winter to see me through to Spring, while increasing my stamina/pain threshold. Ramping up the cycle is not a problem, increasing the run is tough and I'm finding it very tough to train for the Olympic distance. The boredom of the pool is driving me nuts - even with a weekly interval session. Any help would be much appreciated.
