Mink Trapping

Been knocking vermin solid for the last few months, over 100 foxes shot plus about 200 magpies and greys. So decided to hit the mink trapping again. Now that the rivers are back to normal the runs are becoming visible again.

Set 3 traps on my local river last night at dusk, your standard one entrance traps. Used fresh mackerel that I was given yesterday evening as bait. Traps were placed on runs, covered with grasses.

Pop down at 9:30 this morning to check and bingo 2 out of the 3 were successful!

(Still trying to get the smell out of the jeep!)

good work. not enough of us including myself spent time trapping mink. a simple trap i used a few years back is the 2 m length wavin pipe. trapping mink seems to work best in spring and autumn when the mink are on the move

did you let them out of the trap to shoot them?
anyone ever put the trap in water and leave them a few mins?

They need more than a few minutes in water! They can hold their breath for a long time.
I use an old sack and stick the cage inside, wrap the sack over the end of a petrol cars exhaust and idle it for 5-10 mins. Job Done.

all you need is a 2 meter long 6 inch wide wavin pipe. block one end and tie it to a low tree branch at about 60 decree angle and bait it. the mink climb in but can't climb out

spring and autumn are best times as when you clear one patch there is mink on the move and they will fill a vacant spot. you could try rabbit or i used to use a tin of sardines
