I work for an online agency, and we have used Allen Design in the past. They're quite good, I'd recommend them.

I myself am a web designer. What kind of work do you need done? Just a new design? Is the website a static, e-commerce or other function website? Could you link it?

There are hundreds of web designers out there

Before you talk to any of them try to get a few things clear in your mind:
    • Budget - how much are you willing to spend / need to spend
    • Expectations - what do you actually expect them to do
    • Timelines - when do you expect them to do it

You'll find some freelancers will work for a few euro an hour, while others won't get out of bed for less than a 4 figure gig. So be prepared for quotes ranging from one extreme of the spectrum to the other, with all sorts of other things in the middle.

    We've used:
    http://www.2bscene.ie
    http://www.spoiltchild.com
    http://www.webtogether.ie/
    http://www.forbairt.ie/

in the past couple of years for a variety of different projects.

If you're looking for a freelancer you can post on either http://technicaljobs.ie or http://freelancejobs.ie

When you say updates.....do you mean maintenance work? When you look for a designer, they will need to know how long you want to update your website for....the amount of work needed....etc.

There are lots of designers out there. Some quote huge amount of money why others can be cheap and have everything you want.

    Blacknight is right.

However, what most people DON'T look for but SHOULD be looking for is designers who doesn't have errors or passed accessibility on their website. If you go for designers that doesn't pass the accessibility or the validations with w3c, then the chances are that you are more likely to have them on your website.

They are important for any website especially the accessibility. You want to have people with disabilities to be able to work their way around your website. Without accessibility, the disabled people are more likely to leave .... as soon as they entered your website.
