Lost car keys for MX5 mark 1

I have lost my whole bunch of keys. I'm most worried about my car keys. I have a 1992 mazda mx5. The key was a fairly basic one, with a separate alarm/ immobiliser. Is it really expensive to get this sorted? Will I have to get a new ignition and lock fitted? I'm so upset about it. The alarm is set on the car so I don't even know how to de-activate it, never mind get the car open to fit a new lock. Its a cobra alarm system.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

    you have PM

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Ive been checking lots of places that can make a new key for me. Prices are ranging from 120 to 200, to disable alarm and make a new key. Does this sound reasonable?

Sounds expensive. A dealer should be able to cut you a key from the chassis number. Wouldn't imagine it'd be more than 15 or 20 quid as it is just a key.

Alarm... open the bonnet and disconnect it. If it has an immobiliser it's usually a case of just connecting the two heavier wires in the alarm loom together, but you really should get someone who knows alarms to do that end.

Its expensive alright. €150 for a new key to be cut and immobiliser disabled. But it would have been about €400 if I had to get new locks etc...The guy was out in a few hours, did a really good job and dropped my new key into me in work. Very nice of him, and he was the best value too cos I rang around. New alarm and immobiliser fob is €35. Its the kind of thing that will only happen once I think- I have Irelands biggest keyring now!!! Never want to lose my keys again. Stressful and expensive!
