That sound is very messed/distorted. I can't imagine that being a successful "joint" on the radio.

do you know your hip hop history?

that was one of the biggest selling rap/rock crossovers EVER. probably only beaten by RunDMC/Aerosmith... we're talking MILLIONS..

you are aware who "public enemy" are?

Hm, I wasn't aware. I don't listen to old hip hop. Time changes. New money is in.

that maybe so but it doesnt mean that you should ignore the roots of your music. how can you understand where your music is today if you dont understand where it has evolved from.

also, try to remember that public enemy have sold more records than most of todays artists combined.. and thats not just by fluke.

    where it has evolved from.

    Hip-Hop evolves now?

I thought the idea was to take the same 5 minute gimmick used for a novelty record like Rapper's Delight and extend for 30 more years, till its no longer remotely musically interesting?:)

Maybe it me, but thats a pretty poor track and I really don't even see the connection to hip hop and rock in it.. just seems like an average laid back track :)

To me it falls well short of achieving the type of hiphop/rock crossover that was commonplace 20 years ago with Public Enemy (as mentioned), Onyx & Biohazard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfFD709OtFM), Dog Eat Dog, HBlockx and a thousand other bands of that era.

    That is sh1t.
I am convinced that iamcharlie is a MP regular who has signed up with an alter ego to wind us all up.
    Bring the noise was great.
Anthrax were always big rap fans.
    Check out Senser too.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAjgTQS3dSw
They were a great band but never really made it big.
    Wow
Just seen they have a new track out

    WTF?

But yeah, onyx & Biohazard brings back memories of my youth..
And aren't ratatat knocking around for years?..

Seeing as we're on about hiphop though, anyone listen to sage francis at all?..quality(well, a lot of it..the last album rocked ass)

They have been around a while now. I really dig them. They join the dots between hip hop, rock and electro really well. I can see them becoming fairly popular but without any lyrics/singing I can't see them getting any commercial air play (unlike say MGMT) so I don't think they will be huge but they will definitely be big among music heads as opposed to casual music fans.

Wow hip-hop meets rock n roll turns out to be an indie-pop band whos discovered 16th note triplet grooves, horray!

IMO they are the closest anyone has gotten to truly blending rap and rock. And I don't mean in a "party like a rockstar" way. But a true genre blend of it's rhythyms and structures.

I'm talking about right now. 2009.

Nobody cares about extinct bands anymore.
    People don't listen to that.

    So why say this then?
RATM are one of the most influential bands of the genre, and more than meet the criteria you stated above.
As for them being extinct, they sold out huge shows a year ago.
    Your opinions seem woefully ill-informed.

    WTF?

Sorry I was just trying to explain I don't like the beatles :)

    I'm guessing your another...

    These days have changed.

I'm not hating on any of the bands you stated. I am just saying. Nobody cares about them anymore and if they do care then they are probably in their late 40's/30's and still listen to Run DMC

Oversize clothes and the chains, new school is totally off that.

I don't know 1 person out of thousands of people in my area that would actually know who RATM is.

Keep in going there IamCharlie...as a Music Production voyeur, this is fantastic stuff...I'll give it another 20 posts before it's moved by the mods to the comedy forum :)

I'm not convinced this is trolling...tragically.

Why would it be trolling? It's simply the truth.

New school hip hop is the era. Old school is out.

There would be no new without the old. For you to make sweeping statements about musical genres, you need to know your history.

I think that's what people are trying to point out.

    Keep diggin though my man.
