Irish Higher Level 2010 paper change?

Hi, not sure if there's a thread about this. I've only just found this board.

I'm doing the Irish Higher Level Junior Cert paper in 2010 and a few weeks ago when I bought my exam papers, a day after we were told that the Paper could be changing. Our teacher said since he hasn't heard much about it, we'll worry about it later and continue on with our work for now.
So today he comes in with a big sheet telling us that a few changes are gonna be made. Like the Aiste is going to paper 2 and the Comhra is gonna be gone. I'm a bit confused and am wondering if anyone else knows about it?

The good thing is though, if the paper changes, that the listening has gone from 100 marks to 40 marks. And listening is my weak part.

    Cheers

    It's all here.

The oral exam is still OPTIONAL (school decides whether it wants to do it).

There is no longer a seperate exam for the aural, it's now integrated into the exam. The aural has been reduced to 40 marks on all levels.

Read the document for the rest of the changes.

Totally agree. My junior cert HL class were more than disgusted today when I presented them with the new sample paper!

    Oh my God!!!!
I cannot believe this.I don't like how the aural is worth less cos it was my stronghold but thank god they got rid of the comhra!I could just never do them and was usually like WTF how do I get a page (or whatever it was) out of this I can get about 2 lines each but that's as far as it goes.

No wonder our teacher has bein goin on about the genitive case and why nouns change and verbs and adverbs and adjectives and stuff like that for the last week before the holidays. On our last irish class my head was literally spinningg after it and i couldn't think straight for the next few classes.

All I have to say is bring on the new format!!

No harm, I hate the orals, especially the one from Donegal who you hear on every tape...
I think you mean aurals, they're the tape tests.

I don't wan't to do this now. Comhras were lovely little things.. Who wants to know agam, agat, aige, aici.... Or all those different tenses, our teacher had to explain what half them were in english first.

    I am seriously considering pass.

aurals-thats what I meant. I know what you mean, they all sound like they're from Donegal and Russia and other places with strong accents that are hard to hear

Just to let everyone know, on the edco website you can email them and they'll send out a free sample paper thats now coming with the papers if you've already bought them :pac:

Does anyone actually know that the orals are like, by the way? Our teacher hasn't gone anywhere near them with us yet...like what does the examiner ask you and all that?

Well the oral is still optional, so if your teacher is doing it I would only assume that he/she would have started it somehow. Im not sure what they ask, never did it myself. If you are only in second year dont worry, you have a year and a half to find out......

From what our teacher told us what they ask is easy enough, just to be able to keep going for what 10-15mins? They'd ask about your family, hobbies, school, what you did for the holidays are doing in the summer all that kinda thing.

Keep going for 10-15 mins  ...do I know that much Irish.
Actually, the questions don't sound too bad, did a lot of that stuff for big assessments for streaming in 1st Year so I'd say it won't be too bad...I wonder if I have a coughing fit in the middle of the exam will they count it as time...

Ask your teacher to get onto the department of education and ask for a batch of sample exam papers of the new layout as all the pupils have bought the old ones which will now go to waste, worked for my teacher :)
