Gardai actively applying points for no NCT??

Its been a good few months since the law change. Just wondering whether this is actually being pursued by the gardai or not?
I'm referring to drivers with no nct only (not those with no nct/tax/insurance together).


Anyone here been done for it - or know someone who has?

I think there still going easy on it due to the massive backlog it created it test bookings

I be more worried about the number of learner drivers driving unaccompanied (I have had 2 drive out in front of me in the last month or so + was seriously injured as a result of another rear ending me 2years ago) rather than NCT (which is also extremely important by the way) As far as I can see a lot of road traffic offences are not being enforced due to lack of resources/manpower/effort (delete as applicable).

In those examples if there was a qualified driver with them they would have done the same, just $hite drivers who shouldn't be let drive as they are not yet ready for the roads.

I have not heard of any examples but people who know they will not get an NCT will book an NCT, cancel it/not turn up and apply for another and in the eyes of the law that is acceptable.

Certainly looks that way. There were loads of people done for no NCT listed in the Kildare Times this week. Average fine was in the hundreds.

It seems there are more people being fined rather then getting points.

If your going to get cheeky with a guard then they will probably give you a conviction for no Nct. Theres loads of people with no nct flying around, no problems at all.

Strange that the NSC still don't consider "No (NCT/DOE) test certificate" to be an active penalty point even though the commencement order signed by Noel Aherne in April 2009 said took effect on 1st May.

My NCT expired at the end of June. When I applied for a test in May the earliest date I was given was October, so I can't imagine penalties being applied if you have evidence that you have booked a test.

The backlog has been cleared. My wife booked her car in to Fonthill and had a choice of times in the following 2 weeks. I brought it in yesterday, was 10 mins early and the car was taken in straight away as there was no queue.

I think most Garda are reasonable people, if your car is in good order & you have proof with you that you have a test booked 99% of the time nothing will come of it.
However if you have no NCT & there are other issues like bald tyres, no tax or you have been speeding then I think you have more chance of being done.

I got stopped last week, tax and ins is fine, he asked for my licence then asked about the nct which expired in july. Admitted that i had let it slip, he simply said i should get it sorted out asap as there are now penalties for not having it. Booked it online when i got home, for end of nov (i live in mayo).

I reckon he would have done me for not having it if i my tax was out or if i didnt have my licence with me

(obviously not having an insurance disk would kick it off to start with)
