Rail and Sail €44 each way, city centre to city centre.

it depends how limited you are regarding time of travel.

If you book well in advance you can get Ryanair flights for €15 each way including tax, but they often go at 11pm on a Satruday or 6am on a sunday.

I have just booked a load of flights for November and I paid about £85 return into Heathrow and they are at fairly popular times. If you book BMI into Heathrow late on a Tuesday night you should be able to get a flight for €40 each way including tax. then you just have to bung on a few quid for the tube or Heathrow connect (Note Connect, not express. The Heathrow connect goes every 30 minutes, takes 10 minutes longer and is often less than a third of the price of the express).

Air France have some pretty cheap flights as well into London City, i think you can get them for €50 each way, again it depends on the time you fly and how far in advance you book. LCY and LHR are often more expensive to fly into, but your onward journey is often cheaper.

Another tip, don't do the Gatwick Express into Victoria, catch the normal train. again it only takes ten minutes longer but is a lot cheaper.

Keep shopping around though and look at different options, for example flying out with Aer Lingus into Gatwick and then back with Air france from LCY, or Ryanair from Stansted.

My current good value regular fare is with City Jet to London City - their standard 'all in' fare is about €50 there and €80 back, including taxes and baggage and check-in and a seat and all the extras that some other airlines charge for.

It can be hard to beat Ryanairs offers - I got flights to Gatwick for €1 all in, a while back. I needed to go on a Wednesday at a particular time and they had this special fare. I think the Aer Lingus €1 fares don't include taxes, etc . . .

Don't forget that BMI & City Jet fares include all the bits and bobs - check-in, baggage, etc . . . these typically add an extra €10-20 to the 'bottom line' price for Aer Lingus & Ryanair.

Finally, when flying to Gatwick check out the trains that go *through* London and out the other side. I can't remember the route, but they go through London Bridge and then up by Farringdon and on to Kings Cross. If you're heading for that part of London it saves time and money. I think my fare the other day to Kings Cross was £8 which was cheaper than the fare to Victoria.

I've always found Aer Lingus to Heathrow to be the best value usually - BMI can be ok too.Don't particularly like Stansted or Gatwick, and Heathrow Express is decent value by London standards.Much depends on what part of London you're going to of course.

I spent the last year living in London and working in Dublin. I would book my flights about 2/3 months in advance with Ryanair in blocks and never paid more than 30 return all in. The majority of the time it was under 20.

I flew to Gatwick and would book my Easybuses to Fulham in at the same time. £2 each way if you book well in advance.

It was really easy, quick and absolutely hassle free. Only delayed twice in at least a hundred flights.
