BMW - Clock Symbol and Oil change question

The clock symbol came up on my dash under the service indicator. Google tells me that I need to get my brake fluid changed.
Generally how long can I leave this before changing it? Is this just a timing thing or does the car prompt for this change based on usage like it does for a service?

Also, the last service was a year ago and based on how quickly the green lights are going out it will be at least another year before a service is due. I've done about 7K miles since the last service. My Mechanic told me before buying the car that I should be getting the oil changed about every 10k miles - this advice is based on the condition of the oil coming out of similar cars he services. Should I get the oil changed also? Its an X5.

Completely off topic, but I was working on the service desk for an hour one saturday, when an Asian guy came in. "I speak mechanic", so I said "You want to speak to a mechanic? What seems to be the problem with you're car", and he said, nice and loud "Cock on dash". Which ended up being one of those moments the whole place goes quiet, look at this guy, and then almost explode laughing, but do their best to keep it in ... so I said "Excuse me? What's the problem?" ... "Cock on dash, cock on dash", so a quick investigation later, and it turns out the same light as yours was on, the clock on the dash :D

The brake fluid needs to be changed every 2 years. I don't think a few weeks either way will make a huge difference. I think the X5 has the condition based service indicator which means the car will tell you when to change oil etc. but 10k is probably not bad advice if you want to be extra careful.
