New trainers - too late for DCM?

am thinking of getting new trainers today with a view to wearing them for the DCM on Monday week. For one reason or another have left it late to get them - just wondering have I left it too late?

I know exactly which ones I'm getting as I've used them before. Can they be "broken in" gently over the next week to the point where they could be worn without difficulty during the DCM?

In the same dilemma myself and have decided to wear my old runners as I have done no LSR's in the new ones and the longest I wll run before Monday week will be 12K.

I've run races in new trainers a couple of times. I've never had problems so long as they are a type (brand and make) that I've tried before. I guess it depends on the balance between just how thrashed the old ones are and the various reasons you'd want the new ones (impact comfort being my top reason for wearing new one on race day)

Unless they are in bad shape I would stick to the old ones. Although this is coming from a guy who wants to run DCM in flats - longest run in them has been a painful 16 miler (my justification is I think I've changed my running form - yeah right!) :D

If it were me I would get new ones rather than risking injury running in worn out shoes, especially if I was getting the same make & model. I would make sure to wear the same socks as my LSR's as well.

You still have a week and a bit, so you can try them out on a 10 mile run or something similar this weekend, and use them for the few remaining taper runs you have left. Check for blisters afterwards. You have to buy the new shoes anyway, and if nothing else, it's reducing the mileage on your old shoes, so nothing to lose.

Had a pair stolen the day before i was doing a half mara and just bough a new pair, same brand size etc and had no problems. Not ideal but once they are the same size fit etc

I asked my physio about this last week in relation to buying a new pair for DCM. He said it wasn't the best thing to be doing but if they were the same model and size it would probably be okay, and probably better than using a worn out pair.

He did suggest I wear them as much as possible between now and then, i.e. not just while running.

I was in same situation. Went ahead and got a new pair yesterday. Same brand, same size, did 4 miles in em last night, no problem. I'd rather not risk injury at DCM, have a busy year planned. There's no way I would have changed between brands/sizes tho....

I'm buying a new pair today, albeit of the exact same brand, model and size.

I have been wearing Asics 2110 then 2120 then 2130 and a few weeks back I bought a pair of 2140. Thought they would be no problem to break in... turned out they cut my toe for a few weeks, and even now I have to lube up and put a plaster on my toe to avoid friction and blood! I ran a few 5 milers with no problem, but on my first 20 mile LSR it cut my toe pretty badly, and now I have a permanent blood stain on otherwise new shoes!

Bottom line is that I would not recommend running for a few hours in an unknown pair of shoes.

    Just my 2c's

A lot of sensible comments already posted. Just mke sure you don't do what a friend did a few weeks before his last half marathon. He changed runners - went from one brand to another. He had serious achilles issues as a result. He did a couple of short runs early in the week with the new ones and had no issues but did a 10 mile run and the next day his achilles was killing him. Physio was pretty certain it was down to changing brands. So if you are getting new ones, go for the same brand and model.

Also, I'd have thought that you would know from previous shoes if you were prone to blisters or not. I rarely run longer than 8 miles so maybe it's just an issue when you get into double figures.

I did a half-marathon in brand new runners a few years back. I had done one 5k run before in them and decided 'no problem!'. I was wrong. I can't say I enjoyed it. I wouldn't do it again, but if I was you and felt I had to do them, I'd wear them nonstop between now and then i.e., wear them even when at work etc.! If you can get away with it...

Not exactly going to help the op but I forgot my runners before this years half marathon and the only pair I could get were my dads old painting runners! Took 15 mins off my predicted time
