Nature on your commute

Despite some of it's shortcomings for variety I've been heading in to work from C'nock more on the Royal Canal more recently and on a fresh morning there's nothing better. Saw a heron and a kingfisher this morning, often there are rabbits along with plenty of swans, ducks and moor hens.

Most are common but I've only ever seen a kingfisher twice and both times along the Royal Canal

    Any other stuff out there?

On my regular spins I'd see rabbits, sqirrels and if it's getting dark foxes and hedgehogs.

Rats.......and lots of them feeding on spilled grain from the wagons.

Keep trying to get one with the bike without much success......

Saw a fox about 2 weeks ago on the back road I spend the first 5km of my commute.

In Dublin deer in the morning and evening in the park.

In Kerry, deer all the time this time of year, goats, sheep (lots and lots of sheep), horses, various birds (both kinds). Rabbits, hare, badgers, and a fox once. I think thats all.

We live in a nice country fpr that sort of stuff.

The Phoenix Park on a cold still morning is a stunning place. Even better nowadays given the reduction in car traffic due to the roadworks.

Most of the nature I see on the bike is roadkill. Foxes, badgers, rats, rabbits, cats, dogs, frogs, you name it.

That's food, that is. At least according to a BBC Radio 4 programme I caught part of the other day.

Didn't take them on, they wanted to race for the bike. Wasn't sure how quick the horse would be. I followed them up the road easily, the horse wouldn't have stood a chance in a proper race.

I nearly ran into a wild boar last year on my way home. Also encountered badgers, foxes and rats.... sadly all less likely than those insects that manage to get in your eyes on your way down the hill :(

Just back from giving the Dogs their midweek workout where I ride the mtB. Was luckly about 200m infront of the Mutts when I came around a corner to find 4 Sika deer standing in the path. They stood for a few seconds and only moved when the dogs came into view. The lads are both part bred beagles so it took a bit of effort to get them off the scent though the Deer were well gone.
