    Hi all,

Started in college this Sept, I love my course find it really interesting. Thing is since Sept I've been having the worse month ever health wise, it started with swine flu then a kidney infection then a reaction to the medicines :( Anyway have missed a good bit of college, am up to date with my essays etc but now I am afraid I've missed so much and am gonna fail :O

Do you think I should talk to my year head about this? Will be well enough to start back on Mon so if I just put the head down now will I be ok? Ahhhh really dont wanna fail :(

Any advice would be great :)

    Thanks a mil

Talk to the college and your lecturers you wouldn't be the first to miss letures due to illness / circumstances, yes you will have to get the head down and work to catch up but most lecturers will give you a bit of breathing room if they know the circumstances.

I have even seen good lecturers offer special projects to allow catch up on the continual marking and then it comes down to end of year projects and exams which you still have time to catch up for.

It's not even Christmas. You have plenty of time to catch up.

Ask you lecturers what they think and go to the students union to see if they could arrange help from someone either doing the course of who has done it already.

But act *now*. It's way too easy to let things slide in college.

Really depends on the course. (which one are you taking?)

Take it easy. Stress will send you right back to bed shift. The key is not to HAVE to catch up but to try. If there's a lot of material it might be over your head but if you try you might be surprised.

First off get all the notes. Ask the lectures when new subjects or sections are coming up that you can jump straight into. Cover the other material on your own time at night. One option might be to join in with more then 1 group (if you're split) So you've more time to catch up on previous material.

After only a month i find very little has actually gone on. Most can be caught up by looking over the notes (if they publish them online). I've found i can actually cover more material if i do it by myself as i can read faster then they can talk. Give it a shot and DEFINITELY do not drop out or do anything drastic.

Make sure to connect up with societies/groups so you don't get left behind on that front. Will be good to blow off steam and get support from fellow students who are in the same situation you are. It's always useful to have someone who's doing the same course that can help you along and explain things you don't understand.

I did nothing for 3 years out of a 4 year course. You'll be fine.

Whatever you do don't have an attitude like this.......

My college have a policy were in you give them your doc certs and they do not penalise you however the only grade you can recieve is a 2.0(pass)
If you are up to date on essays you should be ok.
Put your head down but not completely, make sure you do enjoy some of the social aspect as I let work get on top of me before, never went out and became very depressed.
    Good luck OP

    +1

yes there is no point in thinking you'll be grand, you are obviously feeling a bit anxious about it all, go to your tutors express how you are feeling, they will soon put your mind at rest and guide you back up to date, they will be very supportive and when they hear how concerned you are they will really help you.

It must have been really tough being so sick at the start of your year, i hope you are rested and can start to enjoy your college experience, best of luck, are you finding meeting people ok if you have missed a lot of time?
